About This Item

New York: Derrydale Press, 1938. Limited Edition. Octavo. Limited to 950 copies. The present copy is # 479. 198 pages, illustrated with photographs. Whether it was a Kenai Moose Hunt or hunting big horn sheep, Russell Annabel brings color and excitement in a world of hunting that before World War II was a challenging task where the entire world was the field. His chapter "The Wrangler's Lament" tells of the cowboy and hunting from Tex Cobb to the cowhand. The author writes with warmth and passion so here is no dull accounting of a hunting trip but an artistic and sometimes humorous account of real life in an America that still exists in areas protected by the National Parks and some environmental laws but is always shrinking in the interest of those who see profits and minerals and have no love for nature. Bound in 3/4 beige cloth over maroon cloth pictorially stamped in gilt depicting a moose, leather spine label gilt with a couple of droplets. A very nice copy.
