London, Smith, Elder, & Co., 1907 2nd. Hardback, approx 7.5 x 5 inches. Full tree calf leather fine binding, with decorative gilt edging to boards, raised spine banding, gilt decorations and black leather spine label lettered in gilt. Marbled endpapers and page edges. In very good condition. Lovely smart cover. Eton prize label to front endpaper “Eustacio E.L. Phillips. 1910.” Some minor foxing spots to top edges of endpapers. Some occasional faint patches of foxing, mostly to rear sides of plates and opposite pages. Else a very good clean and tight copy. 485pp. Illustrated with 8 b&w portrait plates, and 6 maps including one fold-out map at back. A very well told history of the Indian Mutiny, a detailed account of the campaigns to supress it. The siege of Cawnpor, and the storming of Lucknow.
