About This Item
Philadelphia: Thomas, Cowperthwait & Co, 1852. Third Revised Edition. Hardcover. Very good overall. With a three page article at page 332 on Australasia, which includes an unusual woodblock illustration with the caption "Convicts landing at Botany Bay" showing shackled convicts disembarking at the beach under armed guard, a tall masted sailing ship at anchor in the bay. This may be an original illustration; we have not seen this image before. Sml 8vo, 336pp, many wood engravings. Half brown leather and printed paper covered boards. Paper at boards dusty and worn away at lower corners, not affecting text. Internally, some contemporary owner names (Willie Kimball, East Hartford, march 5, 1870; North Brick School East Hartford), and two illustrations laid down, one of "Allyn House, Hartford, 1888 and the second of the Charter Oak, "on the old Willy Place, now no more"
