About This Item
New York: MacMillan Publishing Co., Inc.,, 1979. Inscribed in anticipation of success First edition, first printing, with a lengthy and affectionate inscription by the author on the half-title to Brooke Maxwell, who was a key assistant in Fuller's Synergetics Project and helped in the production of this book. The inscription, dated 30 March 1980 and located Andover Massachusetts, remarks on the praise Synergetics has received from a range of scientists, and predicts "we are about to witness academic science having to recognize that Synergetics is nature's most economic and lucid accounting system". "Synergetics, according to E. J. Applewhite, was Fuller's name for the geometry he advanced based on the patterns of energy that he saw in nature. For Fuller, geometry was a laboratory science with the touch and feel of physical modelsnot rules out of a textbook. It gains its validity not from classic abstractions but from the results of individual physical experience" (Buckminster Fuller Institute, online). Octavo. Original dark red cloth, spine lettered in gilt on red ground, ISBN on rear cover in gilt, facsimile author signature on front cover gilt, diagrammatic endpapers. With dust jacket. Foot of spine lightly bumped, boards a little bowed, faint scratch on front cover; trivial creasing to top edge of price-clipped jacket: a near-fine copy in like jacket.
