Better known by his pen name Lewis Carroll, Charles Lutwidge Dodgson was an English author, poet and mathematician, best- known for Alice's Adventures in Wonderland. Prior owner's ink inscription to the half title, 'Barwick Sharp Browne, from his affectionate friend Ithulgott. Christmas Day 1889'. The addressee of the children's book would later become a lieutenant Colonel. With three pages of publisher's adverts to the rear. Rebound in a contemporary red cloth binding. Externally, very smart. Very lightly rubbed to the rear board, with some rubbing to the joints. The front hinge is starting but firm. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean throughout. Very Good Indeed
Synopsis
Sylvie and Bruno, first published in 1889, and its 1893 second volume Sylvie and Bruno Concluded form the last novel by Lewis Carroll published during his lifetime. Both volumes were illustrated by Harry Furniss. The novel has two main plots; one set in the real world at the time the book was published, the other in the fantasy world of Fairyland.
