New York: Windmill Books; Simon and Schuster, , 1969. First edition, first printing. Winner of the 1970 Caldecott Medal. Quarto. Original green cloth boards, titles to spine black, plain endpapers. With dust jacket. Colour illustrations throughout by the author. Spine lightly faded in the dust jacket with mild toning to edges, light chipping to lower end of spine, light soiling to edges, lower corner of front flapped clipped, a very good copy.

Synopsis

Sylvester and the Magic Pebble is a children's picture book written and illustrated by William Steig. It won him the Caldecott Medal (1970), his first of many and Caldecott and Newbery Medal honors. It tells the tale of a donkey from Oatsdale, Sylvester, who collects pebbles "of unusual shape and color. " One day he happens to come across a pebble that grants wishes.
