About This Item

(Subject: Colonial & Other Wars ) The Regiment Meuron was raised in 1781 consisting of 1300 mainly Swiss Officers and men. The English East India Company initially used the regiment as an auxiliary force but in 1798 the British Government negotiated a revised contract whereby it became a regiment of the British Army.
