About This Item
1925. With an Introduction by Richard Curle. London & Toronto: J.M. Dent & Sons, 1925. 4 pp undated ads. Original maroon cloth, with dust jacket.
First English Edition, published one day after the American first trade edition. This was Conrad's last novel, a Napoleonic tale left unfinished at his death in 1924. This is a fine copy; the striking color pictorial jacket by Thomas Derrick is in near-fine condition (spine a bit faded with a couple of faint droplet-marks, minor edge-wear). Supino A26.6.0 (this copy); Keating 190. Provenance: discreet bookplate of Conrad bibliographer David J. Supino (also, loosely inserted is a card with his notes regarding the collation); 1902-dated bookplate of Robert Hall, the collector best known for his holdings of the Kelmscott Press.
