(Birmingham): Classics of Surgery Library, 1984. Limited Edition. Full Leather. Fine. 8vo. Pp. x; 292. Marbled endpapers. All edges gilt. Fully bound in green leather with gilt design to covers and gilt lettering on spine. Satin bookmark. A facsimile reprint limited to 7,500 copies, of which this is number 879. Despite the high limitation, a fairly uncommon reprint. Abernethy (1764 ñ1831) was perhaps better known as a lecturer than for practicing surgery. Of literary interest is Poe's reference to Abernethy in "The Purloined Letter." Bookseller inventory DDDS-AM-DW.
