Clark, Arlington: Carrollton, 1974 First limited facsimile printing numbered 492 of 2000 copies on limited page at back. Actually written by Lovecraft in December of 1936 however this is the first printing of the essay. Essay was written at the bequest of Lovecraft's friend Willis Conover to revise "Supernatural Horror in Literature" pubished in 1927. The result was a new essay "" long enough," said Lovecraft, "to work the reader into the spirit of the theme, give some idea of what it's all about, indicate the most important works to be read in the given section of the field..."" Orange wrappers 8 3/4" x 11 1/4". 4 pages of text similar to xerox copies of typescript on yellow paper with author notation in margins. Clean and bright. Fine condition..
