Boston and New York: Houghton Mifflin Company. with no dust jacket. 1892. First Trade Edition. Hardcover. Signed "Christmas 1892 John James Ingalls" on front cover. Ingalls was the U.S. Senator from KS 1873-91. Signed by dedicatee, Edmund Clarence Stedman (Poet, essayist, and scientist), on dedication page. Also signed by Richard Smith (as R. S.) Spofford on pp 33, where he is mentioned. Spofford was husband to novelist Harriet Elizabeth Prescott Spofford and a lawyer from MA. Two gift inscriptions: One ffep reads, "To my Beloved New Friend Christmas 1892." The other inscription on rear pastedown reads, "To Frances E. Solomon- From Mrs Ingalls- September 16, 1900". Book shows moderate soiling to covers with light edge wear. Hinges tight, binding slightly loose. A few spots of foxing scattered through text. Supremely unique piece with more than a couple stories to tell.; Signed by Signed .
