About This Item

Boston: Houghton Mifflin, 1893. Very good copy (soiled, sunned spine and edges, but still quite presentable) with top-edge gilt bright and intact, gilt title on white covers. Beautifully printed with 9 illustrations (including frontispiece of Whittier), several still protected by the laid-in tissues. Text is bright and clean except for some toning on page edges. NOTE on the edition: "At Sundown" was originally published in a very small run (variously described as 250 or 277 copies) for Whittier's friends. This edition is somewhat expanded and was issued in 1892. Our copy shows a Roman-numeral date of 1893 on the title page and does not contain the error in the list of illustrations that identifies the first state of this edition. Thus, this copy is a later state of the revised edition of 1892. . Hard Cover. Illus. by E. H. Garrett.
