Description:
Rhinebeck, NY: Four Directions Press, 2017. 1st Edition. Soft cover. New. A heartwarming novella from the celebrated artist, inspired by locales in Queens where the artist grew up. SHINE is the story of an almost 12 year-old shoe-shine boy living with his crippled father in Corona, an impoverished, mostly Italian, outlying part of Queens in 1942. When his father is murdered and he himself is beaten, he finds himself alone in their little hovel. With his father's mantra ever in his mind."Stay out of the system!".he discovers his resourcefulness and the depths of his intelligence as he makes his solitary way as an orphan. All goes well until, as he is shining a customer's shoes, he looks up at the face of the man he saw kill his father.

Hanover and London: University Press of New England, 2011. Hardcover. VG (DJ slightly soiled, otherwise clean, inside and out.). Forest green paper boards with black cloth spine, gilt letters on spine, BW illus. dust jacket, 260 pp., 32 BW & color plates. Autobiography of American artist Robert Kipniss (b. 1931). "The haunting, elegiac prints and paintings of Robert Kipniss have captivated art lovers for more than sixty years, making him one of the most successful and collected artists of our time. In this candid memoir, Kipniss recounts the ups and downs of his early career, the failures and successes of gallery exhibitions and gaining recognition, and the joys and struggles of trying to support a family as an artist, all while tenaciously developing his unique style of landscape painting." (dj) Includes 32 examples of his work.
