About This Item
London: Collins, 1952. Signed first edition of this key work of second world war history. A very good copy in publisher's blue cloth, signed 'Chester Wilmot' below his printed name on the title page. The text is clean and complete. The jacket is in good condition, price-clipped to the front flap, some fraying at both ends of the spine and a closed tear along part of the jacket hinge between the front panel and flap. Wilmot died relatively young in an aircrash in 1954, which makes signed copies of this, his most important work, very difficult to find. He reported for the ABC and BBC during the war; John Keegan has stated that Wilmot effectively invented the modern method of writing contemporary military history'.
