About This Item
New York , NY, U.S.A.: Jewish Theological Seminary of America, 1975. Hard Cover. Very Good/Good. This is a collection of essays by the 19th century German Jewish historian, Heinrich Graetz, author of a comprehensive eleven-volume History of the Jews; Graetz was an opponent of the Reform movement and his scholarship was shaped by his determination to provide an alternative view of Jewish history which would invalidate the claims of the movement; these essays contain his reflections on the nature, direction, and purpose of Jewish history; an extensive introduction by the editor relates the character of his scholarly work to the social and intellectual context of his times (green cloth with gold lettering has very slight edgewear; gray dust jacket is rubbed and creased, edges are worn with a few small tears and chips, otherwise completely intact)
