Culver City, CA: Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer [MGM], 1929. Draft script for the 1930 film, seen here under the working title "The Circle." Stamped "FILE COPY" on the front wrapper, and noted as "TALKING VERSION." Partial, unsigned distribution receipt laid in.
Based on the 1921 play by W. Somerset Maugham, about a young woman who decides to leave her dull, aristocratic husband behind for an elopement with a Canadian.
Cream titled Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer wrappers, dated Dec. 27, 1929, on the front wrapper, with credits for playwright Somerset Maugham (sic) and screenwriters Sylvia Thalberg and Frank Butler. 99 leaves, with last page of text numbered 96. Mimeograph duplication, rectos only. Pages about Fine, wrapper Very Good plus, moderately yapped and edgeworn, bound with two gold brads.
