About This Item
This book is divided into four interrelated parts. Part I
provides an overview of the State of Pakistan's Economy
and highlights some of the critical issues that can form a
new planning perspective for the future, in Part II there is
an examination of the nature of technical change and the
institutional requirements of establishing a dynamic
relation ship between science research, technology and
economic development. Included in this part is an analysis
of economic and social consequences of technical change
in agriculture and ends with a new argument for land
reforms. Part 111 presents the results of the author's
research on the potential for labour absorption in
agriculture and existing trends of labour demand generated
by the changes in agrarian structure. The discussion ends
with a chapter on the impact of inter national migration of
labour on Pakistan's domestic labour market. The analysis
in part Ill focuses on some of the major policy issues
involved in increasing the employment generation
capability of the economy. Finally, Part IV brings together
the historical, political and economic issues underlying the
present crisis of State and Civil Society in Pakistan.
