New York: RKO Radio Pictures, 1940. Revised Draft script for the 1940 film noir, generally considered to be the first in the American film noir cycle.

An aspiring reporter is the key witness at the murder trial of a young man accused of cutting a cafe owner's throat and is soon accused of a similar crime himself. Widely regarded as the first film noir. Author and occasional screenwriter Nathanael West, who is credited with revisions on the front wrapper, was not credited on the finished film.

Purple titled card wrappers, stamped FINAL SCRIPT on the front wrapper, dated MAY 24, 1940, with credits for screenwriter Frank Partos and revision credits to Nathanael West. Title page integral with the title page, as issued. 115 leaves, with last page of text numbered 115. Mimeograph duplication on yellow onionskin stock, rectos only. Pages Near Fine, wrapper Near Fine, bound with three gold brads.
