Baltimore: G. Hill, 1805. Leather_bound. Good. 12 mo. in full calf, well rubbed about the edges and boards. Small contemporary hand-signed bookplate front pastedown and with the same signature ("Thos. Miller") top edge title page. The second American edition of the author's first book, originally published in England in 1803. 270 pp. plus single page publisher's ad at rear. Sir John Carr (1772-1832) was an English barrister but is more popularly known as a travel writer. His jouney's around Europe, the accounts of which were known for their light style, inclded France (his first book in 1803), the Baltic including Russia, Denmark, Sweden, Prussia and Germany; Ireland, Holland, Scotland, and Spain and the Baleric Isles. All were first published bewteen 1803 and 1809. Carr was knighted by the Lord Lieutenant of Ireland after the publication of that book.
