About This Item
London: The Cresset Press, 1945. 1st Edition . Hardcover. Very Good. 12mo - over 6¾ - 7¾" tall. Very good first UK edition. Publisher's faded red cloth, now more orange. Gilt stamped to front cover and spine. Spine further faded. Binding square and tight. Minor tear to bottom corner between front cover and spine. Internally unmarked. Made to wartime standards. Originally banned on publication in the United States. A novel of an inter-racial love and lynching. Billie Holliday claimed the title came from her 1939 song. Could well be so.
