About This Item

London: Sampson Low, Marston and Company Limited, 1900. First English Edition . Hardcover in Dust Jacket. Very Good. 8vo (322 pages; photographic frontispiece of the author; one large color fold-out map). This is a very good copy of the First English edition without dust jacket. The edges of the boards are worn; the covers are a bit scraped; the head and tail of the spine is rubbed; and the corners are bumped. The front hinge is a tad loose; the end papers are lightly foxed. A previous owner’s name is written in a light-colored ink on front free endpaper. The map has a one-inch tear at the top, where it is bound into the book. The English edition does not include illustrations printed in the American edition.
