London: Westaway Books, 1950 9781111696351. First Edition. First printing. Hard cover. Fine/Poor, Book itself s in excellent condition. No inscriptions or annotations etc. DW is damaged but repaired and features the Plymouth coat of arms.. Silver gilt titles on spine, 8.4 X 5.5 X 1.2 inches; 312pp. Frontispiece,of Francis Drake. 6 b/w illus & 2 maps by Lewis Druckett, 1 folding colour map, 10 b/w plates..Line drawings also by Lewis Druckett. Navy boards. Front cover of hardback does not have the Plymouth coat of arms as usually depicted in photos but is blank except for gilt name W. G. Parnell embossed in bottom right hand corner. This suggests it was a special presentation copy.. The author's obituary referred to him as "the acknowledged prince of Devon and Cornwall journalism." Walling himself died the year before the publication which was supervised by his son. .
