Octavo, original pictorial wrappers printed in blue and green. 208 pp. Issued as Ivers American Series, No. 223. An early American edition, published at the height of Kiplings battle against American Piracies. The tale was first published in the USA by Lovell on 30 June 1890 as No. 4 in Lovell's Westminster Series; Ivers also published the pirated first book edition of Kipling's AMERICAN NOTES (American Series No. 230) and operated without the author's permission in publishing his works in America. Toning to text block, small chips at edges, neat ink name on upper cover. A Very Good Copy. Uncommon.
