Black cloth with gilt spine and lettering and front board yellow lettering and pictorial stamping. vii, 92pp. Top edge gilt. Frontispiece, full-page plates. Very good. Spine head/tail a tad chipped and rough and corners slightly bumped, else tight and nice and internally fine; nonauthorial gift inscription on half-title page. First English edition of this tale first published in French in 1842 in Huge's "Le Rhin." Handsome and superbly illustrated.
