About This Item

Stormont, Dundas and Glengarry: A History, Harkness, John Graham. Published by Mutual Press Ltd., Ottawa, Ont., Canada, 1946. 8vo up to 9½" tall., 601pp., illustrated with maps, line drawings, landscapes and photographic portraits of notable inhabitants. Blue textured boards with gilt titles front and spine. Volume is in unread, as new conditions with a couple of tiny bumps to rear board outside edge.

The author is a descendant of one of the earliest settling families in the area. This 1700's settlement was later to become Canada West, then Upper Canada and, today, Ontario. Early settlers arrived from Scotland and from the Palatinate area of Germany and an influx of United Empire Loyalists (UELs), escaping the unbridled consequences of their defeat in the American War of Independence.
