Garden City: Doubleday, 1971. Probable first American edition, though edition and printing not stated (dates on title page and copyright page match, and there was a Canadian edition the same year). Octavo. Cloth hardcover; dustjacket; 233pp. Remainder spray to bottom edge of text block; neat ownership signature to front free endpaper; Very Good. The noted Canadian journalist-environmentalist's third book, a celebration of the "new consciousness" of the generation of the Sixties: "Vast amounts of immediate information have enabled them to discriminate between the real and the fake. Drugs have afforded whole new areas of the mind to explore and enjoy. Rock music has given the body new movements and helped to bring about an international unity..." (from jacket blurb). Hunter (1941-2005) co-founded Greenpeace the same year this book was published, leading the first anti-whaling missions and eventually helping achieve a moratorium on the commercial whaling industry. In later years Hunter became an important campaigner for the rights of indigenous peoples, winning the Governor's General Award in 1991 for Occupied Canada: A Young White Man Discovers His Unsuspected Past.
