First Edition. In the original unclipped dust wrapper. This is the second novel by Malcolm Bradbury which describes the adventures of a young middle-aged author named James Walker when he becomes a resident writer at the Benedict Arnold University. The author himself describes this work as an 'extremely amusing novel' which shows the defeat of the liberal man.Malcolm Bradbury (1932-2000) was an English author and academic. He wrote this novel soon after moving to the University of East Anglia to become the professor of American Studies, creating a course that was attended by both Ian McEwan and Kazuo Ishiguro. Collated, complete. In the publisher's original cloth binding, in the original unclipped dust wrapper. externally, excellent, with minimal fading to the margins and just a bit of light bumping to the head and tail of spine. Dust wrapper is generally smart, with edge wear to wraps and age-toning to the margins and the spine. Closed tear to the top edge of the rear wrap has resulted to a bit of loss to the corner attached to the right of fly leaves. Damp stain mark to reverse of front wraps. Offsetting to endpapers from dust wrapper. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright and clean throughout, with light age-toning to margins. Near Fine
