He spent his early years in India where he was exposed to the rhythms and spirituality of the East. Upon returning to England, he studied at Cambridge and then traveled extensively, living in Spain, Mexico, and France. In 1947, he became a naturalized American and settled in New York City, where he continued to write and teach. In 1984, he was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature.; 8vo; 304 pages .
