About This Item

US: HarperTorch, 2004. Paperback. Good. All the beautiful people live in the idyllic village of Stepford, Connectic ut, an affluent suburban Eden populated with successful, satisfied hubbys a nd their beautiful, dutiful wives. For Joanna Eberhart, a recent arrival wi th her husband and two children, it all seems too perfect to be true -- fro m the sweet, accommodating Welcome Wagon lady to all those cheerful, friend ly faces in the supermarket checkout lines. But just beneath the town's fla wless surface, something is sordid and wrong -- something abominable with r oots in the local Men's Association. And it may already be too late for Joa nna to save herself from being devoured by Stepford's hideous perfection.

Synopsis

The Stepford Wives is a 1972 satirical horror novel by Ira Levin. The story concerns Joanna Eberhart, a photographer and young mother who begins to suspect that the frighteningly submissive housewives in her new idyllic Connecticut neighborhood may be robots created by their husbands. The novel has been viewed by some as a satire on stereotypical American housewives, as well as a study on feminism.
