About This Item

San Rafael, CA: Presidio Press. Very Good. 1980. 1st Edition; 1st Printing. Paperback. 0891410953 . B&W Illustrations; This edition is paperback. The book is in Very Good+ condition. The white cardstock covers of the book have a bit of beginning bumping to the spine ends and corners and there is a bit of light ground-in dirt to the covers as well. The text pages are clean and bright. "Cannery Row in Monterey in California is a poem, a stink, a grating noise, a quality of light, a tone, a habit, a nostalgia, a dream. Cannery Row is the gathered and scattered, tin and iron and rust and splintered wood" "Cannery Row is the waterfront street in the New Monterey section of Monterey, California. It is the site of a number of now-defunct sardine canning factories. The last cannery closed in 1973. The street name, formerly a nickname for Ocean View Avenue, became official in January 1958 to honor John Steinbeck and his well-known novel Cannery Row. In the novel's opening sentence, Steinbeck described the street as "a poem, a stink, a grating noise, a quality of light, a tone, a habit, a nostalgia, a dream." " .
