About This Item

From the front DJ flap: "Nicholas Roosevelt, the great-granduncle of Teddy, braved floods and earthquakes to make the first trip on the Mississippi in a steam-driven boat in 1811 - and introduced a mode of travel that has never been matched in color, flamboyance, elegance and danger." "The steamboat turned the awesome 4,000-mile stretch of the Missouri-Mississippi into America's main street for 75 years." There were gamblers, cutthroats, scoundrels, and Civil War gunboats. Lots of illustrations. Book - Good condition. Library stamps, pocket, and sticker in front. First couple pages are "wrinkled", possibly due to the glue used on the pocket. Light edge/corner wear. Light edge tanning. Text is clean and binding is tight. A very readable book. Dust Jacket - Good condition. Protective cover with library sticker on spine. Some rubbing and bumping . Please use photos as part of the description. 154 pages including Index.
