London: Trübner & Co., 1875. Life and institutions of a small part of India presented in great detail, with lots of statistics and measurements; the first only of a twenty-volume series. Hardcover, as pictured; half blue cloth over black paper-covered boards, rebound in the early-to-mid twentieth century, maybe; modern spine label. Probably ex-library, but with no obvious marks; general wear, bookplate inside front cover, rubberstamped number on rear free endsheet, some wormholes in the text, mostly through p. 50 and in the margins for another 80 pages, recurring in the last 100 pages; and in the folding map. First and last pages and about a dozen internal pages mended with translucent tissue; weird star-shaped hole in last twenty pages, affecting some text - mostly in the index. Paper brittle but holding. 404 pages, index, folding map in front on better paper, though still worm-pierced. . First Edition. Hard Cover. Good/No Jacket. 5½" by 8½".
