Description:
Hayward, CA: Star Reach Productions, 1976. 4th printing. Saddle-stapled wraps. Light shelfwear, faint creasing to the covers. Very Good. [48]pp., with semi-glossy color covers, and b/w interior. Groundbreaking anthology title that attempted to create a middle ground between the extreme excesses of the underground and the super-hero-obsessed dullness of Marvel and DC in the mid-1970s. The title featured many of the brightest stars of that period. Some of them went on to greater things, although most have retained a cultish approach in their work that continues to set them apart from the mainstream. Having said that, the title itself has dated badly, with only a few stories showing long-term quality. Others are interesting, especially early work by people such as Dave Sim and Steve Leialoha. Star*Reach was also noticeable for the predominance of writer/artists who proved to have lasting appeal.
