About This Item

UK,slim 8vo wraps,Uncorrected Book Proof copy. [Publication date 17th SEPT,1998. Often of limited availability, the text of a forthcoming book,is printed and bound in softcovers for use by the author, editors, proofreaders and some favoured reviewers. For undecorated printed wraps, with minimal publication data imprinted - the produced/released number of copies would almost certainly be less than 500,and most probably would tend to be around 200 copies. For glossy pictorial illustrated wrappers, produced numbers are often higher than 200,but either have a scarcity to them.Often errors or earlier versions of text appear in these proofs.Versions where the text has changed considerably are obviously considered more desirable by their nature.] NFINE. No owner inscrptn and no price removal from cover.Bright, crisp, clean, matt,wrap-around RAF-blue paper covers with author's capitalised,black-lettered name, book's title and critic's [Colin Dexter;s] reviwew; plus capitalised, RAF blue lettered UNCORRECTED BOOK PROOF etc legend to a narrow black strip/band at lower edge - all to front cover.Spine/backstrip reading creases-free and with similarly coloured+lettered author name, title as the front's and publisher's black-lettered name and black illustrated colophon to foot of same, rear cover with black-lettered synopsis, critics' reviews [Ruth Rendell and The Guardian] and publisher's advertising and promotional bulleted text; also with a narrow black strip/band to it lower edge with RAF blue lettered publication date,ISBN and price - rear lower corner tip with an accidental diagonal corner crease - but all other corners sharp and unaffected.Negligible shelf-wear to edges and corners - no nicks, tears or splits present. Top+fore-edges bright, crisp, clean and unblemished with no ageing/tonng nor any foxing/spotting; contents bright, tight, solid and sound - virtualy pristine with no dog-ear reading creases to any pages' corners - unread other than my own collation.UK,slim 8vo wraps,Uncorrected Book Proof copy,11-240pp [paginated] includes 22 chapters and an Epilogue; plus [unpaginated] synopsis page, author's potted biography each with blank verso,a title page,Acknowledgements,a dedication,a Prologue - the latter 3 with a blank verso each.
Visually the exterior appearance is still exceptional and particularly internally,is in an exceptional condition/state of preservation and presentation for a book of its 25+ year-old age and nature, i.e an ephemeral p/back Proof copy. It is only the minor fault described that prevents a slightly higher grading overall.Despite that,it really is still an exceptional and exemplary example for its cleanliness, brightness and lack of other detracting faults associated with a decades old paperback.
Bodyguarding had never made it to Manchester PI Kate Brannigan's wish list. But somebody's got to pay the bills at Brannigan & Co., and if the only earner on offer is playing nursemaid to a paranoid soap star, the fast-talking, computer-loving white-collar-crime expert has to swallow her pride and slip into something more glam than her Thai-boxing kit.
Soon, however, offstage dramas overshadow the fictional storylines, culminating in the unscripted murder of the self-styled 'Seer to the Stars,' and Kate finds herself with more questions than answers. What's more, her tame hacker has found virtual love, her process server keeps getting arrested, and the ever-reliable Dennis has had the temerity to get himself charged with murder.
Nobody told her there'd be days like these. . .

Synopsis

'This is crime writing of the very highest order ... Kate Brannigan has turned into the most interesting sleuthess around' The TimesBodyguarding had never made it to Manchester PI Kate Brannigan's wish list. But somebody's got to pay the bills at Brannigan & Co, and if the only earner on offer is playing nursemaid to a paranoid soap star, the fast-talking computer-loving white collar crime expert has to swallow her pride and slip into something more glam than her Thai boxing kit. Then offstage dramas threaten to overshadow the fictional storylines till the unscripted murder of the self-styled 'Seer to the Stars' stops the show, leaving Kate with more questions than answers. And you just can't get the help these days. Her process server keeps getting arrested; her tame hacker has found virtual love; her best friend is besotted with baby; and the normally reliable Dennis has had the temerity to get himself arrested for murder as a result of his latest dodgy business venture. Nobody told her there'd be days like these...
