About This Item

Perth: Upswell Publishing, 2022. Paperback trade, very good condition, black & white photos, minor edgewear, some pencil annotation few pages (including comments last page). 269 pp. Kath Kenny relates the story of five women who, in January 1972, took to the stage of Carlton's Pram Factory to preview their women's play 'Betty Can Jump'. This book is set against a backdrop of moratorium marches, inner-city cafes and share houses, and the rising tide of sexual liberation and countercultural movements. The author uses interviews and archival material to tell the story of 'Betty Can Jump'. It is the 50th anniversary of this groundbreaking play. She considers its ongoing impact on Australian culture, and mentions the fact that the cultural renaissance of women's liberation has recently been largely forgotten.
