About This Item
J. Winchester, New World Press, 1843. 67pps. No binding. Widely scattered foxing. Good condition. The author's preface, written from London in November 1843, says that he is "satisfied that crime and vice were infinitely more prevalent and in their worst forms, during the ages of papal supremacy than at any other period of history, if we except, perhaps, the most degenerate period of the Roman Caesars." The Author selects St. Patrick's Purgatory in Ireland, "because it is the most remarkable of all the purgatory legends;" and , he says, "Ireland has suffered more, perhaps, than any other country from...Romanism." Uncommon, even in this unbound form.
