About This Item
(Edinburgh: William Blackwood, 1896). Pictorial bookplate of Sir Arthur Mitchell, K.C.B. Crown 8vo; original dark green buckram, lettered in gilt on spine, with gilt coat of arms to upper cover; pp. xii + 247, incl. index. Corners slightly turned, and extremities rubbed; lower hinge starting; a little foxing to edges and endpapers, occasional fox spot elsewhere. Good condition. Uncommon. Interesting association copy: Arthur Mitchell (1826-1909) is best known for his pioneering work on the care of mental health patients, but was also a professor of ancient history, member of the Society of Antiquaries of Scotland, and of the Scottish History Society. Ruxton Fraser's book reflects its owner's interest in Scottish local history. .
