The book deals with the career of "Stig Erik Constans Wennerström (August 22, 1906 - March 22, 2006), a colonel in the Swedish Air Force who was convicted of espionage in 1964.During the 1950s, he leaked the Swedish air defence plans and the entire Saab Draken fighter jet project to the Soviet Union. He also worked as a military attaché in Washington, DC, where he was very useful to the Russian military intelligence agency, the GRU." He is mentioned in Stig Larsen's trilogy "Girl with the Dragon Tattoo". The book is inscribed on the ffep "From Gunnar Jarring " and was given to MI5 operative Richard Thistlethwaite. After working in diplomatic posts in Ankara, Baghdad , Addis Ababa and Tehran Jarring became Sweden's permanent representative at the United Nations. He conducted the Jarring Mission as U Thant's special envoy to the Middle East and was asked to promote the provisions of UN Resolution 242 in the Israel-Palestine conflict. He was later ambassador to America and the Soviet Union. He was involved in 1964 in the unsuccessful discussions surrounding an attempt to swap Wennerstrom for Raoul Wallenberg.
