BRASHER, Rex. Spring 'long shore. [cover-title only, issued without a title-leaf]. 4to, original pictorial wrapper, 7 sheets with integral illustrations mounted to recto and verso of 43 larger sheets. N.p., n.d. [Kent, Conn.: Printed by Meriden Gravure Company for Rex Brasher Associates [1932].
Printed for private distribution by the author-artist and illustrated from his drawings (6) and photographs (3). An illustrated ecological essay about birds and the Long Island shore, by the author-artist of Birds and Trees of North America. Harold Hugo, President of the the Meriden Gravure Company (1900-1985), was a friend to many a bookseller, including this family. Presentation copy, inscribed by Brasher above his printed name: "To Amy Spingarn from..." The recipient was the wife of Joel Elias Spingarn, one of the first members of the NAACP, and one of the first Jewish leaders of that organization. The Spingarn's country estate, known as Troutbeck, is in Amenia, New York, not terribly far from Kent, Ct. Some minor damage to the blank edges and spine of the wrapper, otherwise fine. In morocco backed cloth folding case. OCLC locates one copy (Univ. of Virginia), and says it was printed n 1940.
