First Edition, First Printing.. Laid-in is an interesting signed typed letter from an acquaintance of the author giving the book as a present. Caspar William Whitney was an American author, editor, explorer, outdoorsman and war correspondent. He originated the concept of the All-American team in college football in 1889 when he worked for Harper's Magazine. [wiki]
