New York: First Edition, 1968. First Edition. First Printing Very near fine in red cloth covered boards with gilt text stamping on the spine. A small octavo of 8 by 5 3/8 inches with the front hinge begining to part. In a near fine, unclipped dust jacket with a small nick and soiling to the upper rear corner of the spine area where it meets the rear panel and mild staining to the outside edges of the rear flap. Signed by the author on the first free end page without a date or inscription. This was McGuane's first book which has become quite uncommon in such nice condition. It is a work of fiction which deals with two men who "resume a long-standing and destructive competitive friendship" while at a hunting and fishing club in Michigan.
