About This Item
New York: Bantam Books, 1988. First Printing . Mass Market. Fine. 246 Pages. I cannot go home," Emri said quietly. "I would do so if I could, but the shaman, Mandris, has cast me out of the tribe and vowed to kill me should I return." We are not afraid of him!" shouted Tusk. "You are not .alone anymore; you have a tribe of your own. We would not let him harm you. He would not dare to fight you while we stand at your side!" There were many such cries, and Hawk and Emri looked at each other with equal parts astonishment and cautious wonder. Never had they thought of returning, except in their own private dreams. Much as it was desired, it had seemed an all but impossible dream. Dawn looked up at Emri and there were tears in her eyes. "I want to go home," she whispered. "I want to go home." Proud Bear looked at Emri with eyes that shone with an unusual brightness. "You could return if you wished to do so," he said quietly. "You are not afraid of anything, animal or human. We have witnessed your courage. As you have told us yourself, you are brother to the lion. Take us to the land that does not die with the coming of Cold Time. Take us, Emri, take us home.
