About This Item

London: Faber and Faber. 1964. Uncorrected proof copy of the first edition, first printing. Uncorrected proof copy of the first edition, first printing. Signed by the author. Publisher's original blue card covers printed in black, in the proof state John Piper illustrated dustwrapper. A very good or better copy, the binding square and firm with a staple puncture (staple no longer present) and the publication month and price "April 18/-" in blue ink to the upper cover, a name and address (presumably the proof reader) in pencil to the rear cover. The contents are clean throughout and without inscriptions or stamps. Complete with what we presume to be the proof or trial state dustwrapper that differs from the published version in the absence of the red titles to the upper panel. The dustwrapper is in very good condition with a closed tear to the lower spine fold and small nicks to the extremities. There is a partial blind stamp to the edge of the lower flap. Not price-clipped (18s net to the lower front flap). Scarce in this form. Signed by William Golding in blue ink on the front panel of the dustwrapper. Further details and images for any of the items listed are available on request. Lucius Books welcomes direct contact with our customers.
