Vienna, 1922. (Vienna 1922). Large 4to, Plates and penciled handwritten title page laid in an orange paper folder with printed yellow title label and contained in a modern custom orange board slipcase with printed title on cover and spine. Folds reinforced with archival tissue paper; plates with occasional light creasing. A remarkable collection of 17 signed linocuts in sensational color heightened with watercolor of folk toys made in Vienna by the students of Josef Hoffmann. In 1899 he was appointed professor at the Kunstgewerbeschule (School of Applied Arts). He was a founding member of the Vienna secession and co-founder of the Wiener Werkstatte in 1903 where he stayed until 1931. The Kunstgewerbeschule was an important part of the Secessionist movement and a training ground for members of the Wiener Werkstatte, most of whom were graduates. Wooden toys include toy soldiers, decorative pieces, animals and birds, many of them moveable. Several designers of these toys became important in the design world, including Christa Ehrlich, Gertrud Hochsmann, Wilhelm Rosler and Fridl Steininger. A beautiful and important collection..
