About This Item
USA: E. P. Dutton & Company, 1974. Hardcover. Very Good/Very Good. 8vo - over 7?" - 9?" tall. Type: Hardback Second Printing of First U.S. Edition. Translated from the French by Jean Stewart, 1969. Hardcover Book and Jacket in Very Good Condition. The story of Spain and its people from the rise of the Franco Dictatorship to the present ( 1939-1974). A narrative history and a penetrating analysis of what are often misunderstood years in Spanish history: the years that separate Spain as it is today (1974) from the exhausted Spain of 1939. Questions explored are what happened in the course of 34 years of Francoism; how Spain fared during World War II; how the Caudillo survived the victory of the democratic powers; and much more. Clean and unmarked brown half-cloth with sharp and bright gilt titles, brown boards; light rubbing of extremities; tight and solid and square. Faint stain on top right corner of text block that extends as a shadow on that corner of some pages. Internals quite clean, free from any markings, no creases, some pages have a waviness to them. Three 8 page photographic sections. On these plates there is a faint stain on the fore edge of some of the pages. Red and gold jacket is unclipped, clean, light edgwear. 390 pages including table of Abbreviations, Genealogy of the Spanish Royal Family, Statistics, Bibliography, and Index. 9.5 x 6.25 inches. 1974, E. P. Dutton and Co., New York, New York, USA
