Title: Spadina, A Story of Old TorontoAuthor: Austin Seton Thompson Publisher: Pagurian Press Limited, Toronto, ON, 1975ISBN: 0-88932-025-X
Spadina is a story of an old Toronto property and the two families who have lived there since Governor Simcoe granted the land in 1793. Part I, The Dynastys 1793-1865 describes the building of the first Spadina house on Toronto's Davenport Hill by Dr. William Warren Baldwin in 1818. Part 2, The Golden Key 1866-1936 describes the purchase and development of the Spadina property by another Irishman, James Austin, banker, railroad owner and head of a public utility. Extensively researched, fully documented, the story of Spadina and the people connected with it provides an intimate and fascinating study of the men who helped shape Toronto's history from colonial to Edwardian times.
