Black cloth stamped in gilt on front and spine, top edge gilt; plain endpapers; [xxiv],239,[1]pp; frontispiece portrait and folding map. An upright copy with gentle rubbing to spine ends, mild silverfish damage to top edge and rear board, else Very Good.
Section from Pike's journal describing his expedition to explore the western Great Plains and the Rocky Mountains, during which he sighted Pike's Peak. 23rd in the Lakeside Classics series, which reprinted uncommon Americana texts in handsome editions. The series was never sold to the public; instead, copies were presented to R. R. Donnelley employees as Christmas gifts.
