INCLUDES PERSONAL LETTER FROM THE AUTHOR, LAID IN. Hardcover. Bound in a purplish brown publisher's cloth with gilt lettering on the cover and the spine. Illustrated occasionally throughout with photographs in black and white. Frontispiece is a portrait of William A. Evans, M.D. Contents include the families of: Evans, Hammock, Clement, Heard, Robinson, Fitzpatrick, Wyatt, Foster, Grigsy, Blassingame, Gowen, Bearden and Winn. Includes a bibliography. Indexed. vi, 405 pp. Inscribed by the author in blue in on the front flyleaf: "For Mrs. Charles King / for her collection / Adelaide Evans Wynn". Personalized letter is handwritten on Mrs. James Osgood Wynn's letterhead, dated "Easter Sunday", and is signed "Cordially yours, Adelaide Wynn", and is laid in. Also laid in are newspaper clippings dated 1951 preserving the news announcement of the author's funeral notice, and other clippings. <br><br>FORWARD: "In these pages ancestral lines have been completely traced where possible to do so authentically. Furthermore, the object of the complier is to give readers the benefit of miscellaneous data which, with facts in their possession, might enable them to construct pedigree charts of their own". <br><br>ABOUT THIS BOOK AND AUTHOR: Chiefly ancestors of the author and some descendants of those ancestors. Adaline Evans was born in 1866 at Marion, Alabama, the daughter of William A. and Josephine Wyatt Evans. She married James Osgood Wynn (1853 to 1925) of Atlanta, Georgia. They had no children. Her father, Dr. William Augustus Evans (1836 to 1905) was born in Morgan County, Georgia, the son of Josephine Wyatt in 1864. They had seven children, 1865-1880. He died at Aberdeen, Mississippi. Julia Josephine Wyatt was born in 1844 at Marion, Alabama, the daughter of William Newton Wyatt (1803 to 1868) and Eliza Ann Miller Wyatt. Ancestors include: David Evans (fl. 1717 to 1764) of Prince George County, Maryland, and Virginia; Rev. Hawte Wyatt (1594 to 1638) of Boxley, Kent, England, and Jamestown, Virginia; John Heard (fl. 1702 to 1708) of King William County, Virginia; William Hammock (fl. 1672) of old Rappahannock County, Virginia; Joseph Fitzpatrick (d. ca. 1770) of Virginia and Craven County, South Carolina. <br><br>CONDITION: Overall VG with some shelf wear and fading of the spine. Leaves have evenly toned with light discoloration around page edges. Completely unmarked except for the author's inscription on the front flyleaf. Pagination is complete. Binding is tight. A nice copy.
