About This Item
London, 1763. Good + overall. A view of New York City engraved when it was under British control. A later image, by Thomas Howdell (just before the start of the American Revolution), is also a view from this perspective, showing New York harbor, Nutting Island, Staten Island, Long Island, Rutgars House, South River, and the Brew-house. The city is visible in a distant view at the right.
7 1/8 x 4 1/2". Closed tear at bottom edge through title, repaired with archival tape on verso, otherwise bright and clean. See the Museum of the City of New York, image 29.100.1588 (An almost identical print by Carington Bowles, 29.100.1966, is also at the Museum of the City of New York).
