From rear dustjacket: "Mr. Brenan's account of his years in Yegen, where he lived as one of the people, and found time to understand Spain through understanding the peasants. The London Times says: "His book is thus like the hills among which he lived: firm, fertile, colored, and it may be surmised, permanent." Includes encounters with Virginia Woolf and Lytton Strachey
